Food & Drink at The Black Bull
At The Black Bull in Sedbergh you’ll find an exciting and unique menu,
designed with influences taken from Japanese and German cuisine.
The best seasonal, local produce inspired by Nina Matsunaga’s German & Japanese heritage.
We source our produce mainly from the ‘neck’ of Britain, an area that includes the best of Cumbria, Yorkshire, Lancashire & Northumbria. Some of greatest the UK has to offer.
Our meat is picked directly from the farm, the whole beast to guarantee the best quality reaches the plate. Most of our fish from two fantastic coasts either side of us, fruit and veg from the lush fields of Lancashire & Yorkshire as well as many other products surrounding us.
This produce is the base of the dishes, with often a twist, inspired by the fusion of two different cultures, Nina’s rich Japanese heritage and James’s Dales upbringing…

Our seasonal approach means that our menus change daily to reflect the best ingredients available to us at any given time.
Our wine list is an eclectic mix of all that’s good about the world of wine.
James’ passion for wine is obvious throughout his list, a keen interest in independent wine makers who hold similar ethical values about their production. Embracing ecology, sustainability, as little intervention as possible but yet producing tasty wine.
That’s not to say you won’t find the classic and conventional alongside the new wave of natural wines. We have a condensed restaurant menu or an extensive cellar list, enough for any wine geek.
